"Painting Loudly is about . . .

. . . speaking your truth, being authentic, and most importantly loving yourself. I PAINT LOUDER when I am creating my art. I use color, words, and imagery to express myself, share what I love, make people smile, with a goal of putting a little positivity out into the world. In every piece I make, you will find at least one butterfly; some are hidden, where others are the focal point. Butterflies are a symbol of transformation, freedom, and rebirth.

LEAH BENNETT enjoys using her photography, whether it's images of automobile racing or colors in nature, as a reference or as an integral part of the piece of art she is currently developing. Her works range from MIXED MEDIA (canvases with 3D elements to unique sculptures of recycled materials) to WEARABLE ART (upcycled purses hand-painted to order or custom tennis shoes).

Artist Statement

Leah Bennett is a mixed-media artist who blends watercolor and acrylic on paper and canvas, integrating 3D elements such as layered paper, fabric, and found or repurposed objects. Her work extends beyond two dimensions, creating a tactile experience that invites viewers to look more closely. Inspired by nature, color, and uplifting quotes, she begins her creative process with an emotion or a feeling she wishes to capture, sketching ideas and pulling from a collection of materials she has curated for over two decades—ranging from old T-shirts and toys to fabric scraps and pill containers. She often incorporates her own photography, either directly or through reinterpretation with paint and embellishments such as glitter, embroidery, beads, and rhinestones.

A central and deeply personal element in her work is the butterfly—a symbol of transformation, resilience, and beauty. This recurring motif serves as a tribute to her daughter, who passed away in 2005 at the age of eight. Whether prominently featured or subtly hidden, the butterfly acts as a reminder of her daughter's presence and spirit.

Bennett's artistic journey began with a background in graphic design, having graduated from the Center for Creative Studies in 1991. However, it was through a period of deep personal healing that her style evolved into what it is today. In 2020, as she processed past trauma and loss, art became an integral part of her healing journey. This shift brought a newfound depth and vulnerability to her work, emphasizing themes of resilience, memory, and connection. In 2022, she began preparing for her first exhibition, scheduled for 2025.

Her mission is to create art that evokes joy and connection, offering warmth and hope to those who experience it. Through vibrant colors, layered textures, and meaningful symbolism, she invites viewers into a world of light, transformation, and storytelling—a reminder that even in life’s darkest moments, beauty and connection are always within reach.
